Answers to your commonly asked questions.

  • What is the difference between balayage and foils?
Balayage tends to be more diffused, while embracing a natural or darker colored root. Designed to mimic the suns natural effects on the hair, creating a sun kissed highlighted look. The maintenance on this service is much longer in between salon visits ranging from 3-6 months. Traditional Foils or Highlights have a more noticeable contrast between the highlighted strands and the natural hair color. The color starts at the root, and the look can be more uniform or varying in size depending on the look you are going for. Typically this type of service needs to be refreshed every 6-10weeks on average.
  • Can I just get a haircut?
At this time GO FIG is not taking appointments for haircuts unless with a color service.
  • Whats the difference between a partial and a full?
A partial balayage or foil covers the front of your head, the sides by your ears and down your part. A full balayage or foil covers the front of your head, the sides by your ears, down your part and all of the back of the head. The biggest difference is if you want to add pieces into your hair and don't mind the back underneath (neck area) staying how it is before an appointment then a partial will be for you. If you are a blonde, someone who puts their hair up a lot or have become "two toned" because of lots of partial appointments- a full is recommended.
  • What is a corrective color?
A corrective color is a salon service where a significant amount of previous hair dye needs to be removed when going lighter. GO FIG, unfortunately does not offer this type of service.

  • What does pH balanced mean?
In chemistry, pH, (potential of hydrogen) measures how acidic or alkaline a water solvent substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Some fun examples of pH: Your body 7.34-7.45 Water 7 Hair skin and nails 4.5-5.5 The brain 7.1-7.2 Soda 2.5-3.5
  • Why do pH balanced products matter?
pH balanced hair products help maintain the natural acidic pH level of your hair (4.5-5.5). This is crucial for keeping the hair cuticle closed, preventing frizz, breakage, damage and color fading, while also locking in moisture and promoting overall hair health.
  • What happens to my hair if I don't use pH balanced products?
If you don't use pH balanced hair products, your hair can become damaged, experiencing issues like increased frizz, breakage, tangles, color fading, and potential scalp irritation making it more porous and susceptible to environmental damage. Some key points about using non pH balanced products: - Can cause the hair cuticle (the outer layer of your hair strand) to lift, making the hair shaft more vulnerable to damage and breakage. - When the protective outer layer is lifted, it allows chemicals and free radicals to penetrate the hair, leading to color fading and frizz. - A disrupted scalp pH can lead to dryness, itchiness, and dandruff. - Healthy hair with a balanced pH naturally reflects light, but an imbalanced pH can leave hair looking dull and lifeless. - Hair may become more prone to stretching and breaking due to reduced elasticity caused by a non-balanced pH.
  • How do I know if the products I am using are pH balanced?
To determine if your hair products are pH balanced, check the product label for terms like "pH-balanced" and a specific pH level range of 4.5 to 5.5 (the same has your hair skin and a nails) If it doesn't have the specific level range listed, it technically isn't pH balanced- you fell for smart marketing! If the information isn't readily available, you can contact the brand directly to inquire about the pH level of their product; alternatively, you can use pH testing strips to measure the pH of your hair products at home.
  • Professional Brands that aren't pH balanced
This answer may sting for some of you- although, these lines may carry a "pH balanced" option- none of them have the range listed on the bottle. I always recommend to use what you have before switching to the good stuff! -Redken (pH option but no number range listed) -Morrocan Oil -Oribe -Schwarzkopf (pH option but no number range is listed) -Kevin Murphy -Pureology -Joico -Biolage -Olaplex -K18 -Paul Mitchell -Ouidad -Amika There are tons of professional lines who are NOT pH balanced, these are just some of the most popular brands.
